PLOT
For one hundred years Lord Reaper has controlled the DWMA. During his time he has welcomed witches into the Academy, funded a corporation to produce imitation witch souls and maintained balance in the world. This world has become a much different place than you may remember it. Students of the DWMA still hunt witches who seek to disrupt the balance, but they are not allowed to consume their souls. Instead, weapons who have proven themselves worthy are given imitation witch soul supplements that allow them to become death scythes once enough of the supplement has been consumed.
Since witches have integrated into the daily life of academy students, becoming students themselves, there have been an increased amount of weapons and meisters who possess magical abilities being born into the world. Much has changed in the way Academy students view witches since Lord Reaper allowed them access to the Academy 80 years ago. They are no longer a source for panic and fear. They have long since been accepted into society, so much so that it is more abnormal for an Academy student to not possess magical abilities than it is for them to have them.
Of course, eighty years is not so long that the entire world has forgotten the terrible atrocities that Witches committed and still commit to this day. There are still many witches who despise the Academy, their pull to madness is simply too strong to control therefore they feed into their more chaotic nature. These witches have grown to despise the Academy more than ever before. They claim that the combination of the DWMA and witches is an abomination and should be dealt with accordingly.
No one seems to question the strange Soul Production Laboratory that popped up out of no where thirty years after witches were introduced to the Academy as students. They offered Lord Reaper an opportunity to continue the tradition of creating Deathscythes and after the Academy thoroughly investigated the lab they eagerly accepted their help, agreeing to fund their research. It is rumored that wealthy families pay them to experiment on the souls of their children, increasing their abilities and combining weapons with multiple forms. But who knows?
As always, the bad seek to harm the good and the good seek to maintain the balance. On which path do you follow?
SETTING
Death City has become a much larger place in 100 years. The city has become a large metropolis since Lord Death passed away. The architect is still strange, however the newer buildings all possess perfect symmetry. The city itself is perfectly symmetrical when viewed at a distance. For every building on one side of the city, there is an identical one on the other side. This is Lord Reaper's true legacy, he claims. The usage of vehicles became necessary with the growth of the city. Magical items are bartered everywhere, from self-aware toys to brooms and vacuums that operate by themselves. Life in Death City has never been more glamorous.
The Academy itself has changed very little. It has become something of a historical symbol, tourists come to Death City every summer to see the old school for a small fee. Not to mention Lord Reaper would never authorize changing the design of something so perfectly symmetrical. The only addition to the school are the statues that stand on small pedestals in the middle of the stairs leading up to the academy. These students honor those who fought to defeat the reign of the Kishin Asura, and to honor Lord Reaper's friends. The statues appear all along the stairs in this order from the base of the stairs; Maka and Soul holding hands, Tsubaki and Blackstar with Black Star giving everyone a thumbs up, Crona smiling peacefully, Liz and Patty waving while holding hands. At the very top of the stairs stands a statue of Lord Death. Underneath him reads a plaque that says "In memory of those who fought to protect the balance of the world. May we all have the courage to face our own obstacles with such vigor." In the large open area before the entrance of the school are other statues of various teachers who also fought against the Kishin.
LIFE AT THE ACADEMY
Much has changed with the way the school operates. As time has progressed, weapons and meisters have evolved. It is much easier for them all to connect with one another. A single meister can operate pretty much any weapon as long as they are familiar with one another at a basic level. Because of this, partnering up with a single person is no longer necessary. However, Lord Reaper likes to keep things structured and through the years developed a system that the DWMA now functions on. Students are grouped into one of five classes and are numbered 1-5. (to learn more about each individual class see MEMBER GROUPS)
Lord Reaper is an effective commander. Missions are carried out more formally and frequently. The world's balance is well-kept and under tight observation by the Academy's headmaster. Students are expected to be polite and well mannered, addressing teachers and other faculty with "yes ma'am" and "no sir" responses. The Academy almost operates more as a military base than an actual school, however there are those students who attend class at the DWMA but are not expected to fight. It is completely up to a student's discretion. A weapon who chooses this path, though, will never become a Deathscythe.
